Venceremos Brigade Crosses Peace Bridge

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY – About 85 members of the Venceremos, or "We Shall Overcome," Brigade crossed the Peace Bridge Monday morning without incident following a ten day trip to Cuba. The group has sent thousands of visitors to Cuba since 1969 to provide humanitarian aid.

The Venceremos Brigade opposes US economic policy toward Cuba and the ban on travel to the island nation.

The men and women passed through US Customs without being detained, despite openly defying the travel ban. However, inspectors did scan the passports of those crossing the border.

Members could still face fines ranging from $7,500 to $55,000.
