Senator Clinton Targets Video Games

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – United States Senator Hillary Clinton wants to make sure inappropriate video games stay out of the hands of children.

Senator Clinton said she will introduce legislation that would prevent the sale of violent and sexually explicit video games to minors.

Clinton is calling for a federal investigation into a very popular video game called "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

She is calling on the the Federal Trade Commission to investigate how game users are able to access pornographic and violent content for the game from the Internet.

"And a recent report that the video game has graphic pornographic content that can be unlocked by following instructions widely available on the Internet is just horrifying. As parents and advocates for children, we have to draw the line," said Mrs. Clinton.

Clinton is urging the FTC to decide if the ratings on the game should be changed from "M" for mature to an "Adults Only" rating.

"I believe the ability of children to access pornographic and outrageous violent material on so called "M" rated video games is spiraling out of control. It is time to put the breaks on," said Mrs. Clinton.

Doctor David Walsh, founder of the National Institute on Media and the Family, agrees with the Senator.

He said the government needs to find out where the code is in the video game - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - that allows for the access to sexually explicit scenes.

"Savagely murdering women, shooting police officers, and now directing explicit pornography for entertainment are bad for kids," said Walsh. "The issue, that has brought this to a head, is available through the Grand Theft Auto game, is truly shocking. We starting tracking this about two weeks ago when we starting hearing rumors."

Walsh said the game maker has been very vague in their statements about the code, claiming the game was modified or altered by a man in the Netherlands was altered. But Walsh saidd that man claims he did not create the scenes, but simply found the code and unlocked it.
