DNA Links Clarence Murder to Bike Path Killer

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – A startling development was revealed Thursday in the on-going murder investigation of a Clarence woman. Authorities say DNA evidence in the Joan Diver case is linked to the Amherst Bike path murder of a UB student and several other unsolved rapes and homicides.

When Diver's body was discovered along the Clarence-Newstead bike path at the end of September, investigators noted similarities to 1990 murder of UB student Linda Yalem. Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard says with certainty DNA from the Diver case matches the unsolved rape and murder that occurred 16 years ago along the Amherst bike path.
