Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo City Mission is receiving over a one million dollar grant that will assist clients with future housing needs.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant will be used to help women at the Mission's Cornerstone Manor Campus to find permanent housing.
Cornerstone Manor provides shelter for women who have dealt with addiction and domestic violence.
Women will start in transitional housing, and then apply for a permanent housing option.
Erie County Director of Public Advocacy Sawrie Becker said the housing will provide a stable environment allowing the women to focus on building their future.
"Were really committed to connecting women with resources that they need to reach their fullest potential. This just takes care of those basic needs that women need to have taken care of so that they can go out there and be self sufficient and connect with the resources that they truly need to benefit their families and themselves," said Sawrie.
Buffalo City Mission Executive Director Stuart Harper said the grant will allow the mission to help more people in need.
"The step down from going from transitional housing to permanent housing where they go from a totally supporting environment to having to take care of everything themselves, thats a very challenging transition. This grant will allow us to continue to pay for those apartments and support them with counseling while their in this permanent strategy,' Said Harper.
The grant will help connect women with the resources they need while providing them with a stable environment.
