Theater Talk: Politics skewered at Kavinoky in BOTH YOUR HOUSES

A number of plays and musicals were held over during Thanksgiving week so audiences have one final opportunity to see, for example, NORA at Torn Space Theatre, STOMPIN' AT THE SAVOY at the Paul Robeson Theatre, or BOTH YOUR HOUSES at the Kavinoky Theatre, all discussed on this week's Theater Talk.

Six local productions close this Sunday, December 6:

You have only three more days to attend BOTH YOUR HOUSES, a play by Maxwell Anderson, directed by David Lamb, through Dec 6, Thu & Fri at 7:30, Sat at 3:30 & 7:30, Sun at 2.at the Kavinoky Theatre, 320 Porter Ave. (829-7668). www.kavinokytheatre.com. Put the fun back in dysfunctional politics.

NORA, a drama adapted by Ingmar Bergman from Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, is presented by Torn Space, directed by Robert Waterhouse, through Dec 6, Thu at 7:30, Fri & Sat at 8, plus Dec 6 at 7:30. Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle, 612 Fillmore Ave. (812-1733). www.tornspacetheater.com. While the play has some problems, remember that A Doll’s House (or, more correctly, A Doll House) is considered THE singular play that launched the modern age of realistic drama, about real people and real problems, as opposed to melodrama.

And if you got through Thanksgiving without a major catastrophe, you deserve a break.  Have fun STOMPIN’ AT THE SAVOY, a musical by Ron Stacker Thompson, directed by Mary Craig, through Dec 6, Fri & Sat at 8, Sun at 4. Paul Robeson Theatre at the African American Cultural Center, 350 Masten Ave. (884-2013). www.aaccbuffalo.org
