The musical "Beautiful" tells the inspiring true story of Carole King who began life as Carol Klein from Brooklyn, a girl who broke into the record business as a teenager, ultimately writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll. During her years cranking out those hits in NYC's Brill Building, Carole King and her partner Gerry Goffin were best friends and also competitors with another song writing team, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
"Beautiful" with over 200 performances during the current national run features audience favorites written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "We Gotta Get Out of this Place," and the title song, "Beautiful."
On stage at Shea's Performing Arts Center this week, Becky Gulsvig plays the role of Cynthia and spoke with WNED WBFO about how audiences react to the nostalgic songs. As mentioned on WBFO's "Theater Talk": BEAUTIFUL, THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, a touring production of the Broadway musical presented by Shea’s and Albert Nocciolino traces the career of this singer/songwriter from her start in the Brill building through her groundbreaking “Tapestry” CD. It has a short run March 15-20, Tuesday-Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 & 8 p.m., and Sun at 2 & 7 p.m. at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, 646 Main St.
