The Jewish Repertory Theatre opened COMPULSION OR THE HOUSE BEHIND with a veteran cast presenting the story, based on real life, of "Sid Silver" trying to produce a play about "The Diary of Anne Frank" and meeting resistance which only feeds his paranoia. The most "sane" character on stage is Anne Frank, represented by a Michele Costa designed puppet, ably manipulated and voiced by Amelia Scinta.
All three openings this week have the look of "hit" about them. Two opened last night: AVENUE Q at 710 Main Theatre which runs through April 24 and WOMEN ON FIRE at O'Connell Company which runs through May 1. HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING is a classic musical by Frank Loesser that will open Thursday, April 13, and run through May 15 at Musicalfare Theatre (behind Daemen College in Amherst).
OF MICE AND MEN continues an excellent run at The New Phoenix Theatre on the Park, 95 Johnson Park, through April 16th.
THE MARK OF CAIN, a Subversive Theatre Production, continues through April 30 at the Manny Fried Playhouse, 255 Great Arrow Avenue.
