Toddler shot in Niagara Falls drive-by

A child believed to be around three years old was shot in the face during a drive-by shooting at a Niagara Falls convenience store Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the child was in a car seat with an adult male in a car at the Hometown Grocery Store at 17th Street and Pierce Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. while the child's mother was in the store. Shots were fired from a passing silver Pontiac or Ford Taurus, striking the child in the face.

The mother returned to the car, and the child was driven to the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. The condition, age, and gender of the child were not revealed by police.

The store's manager says he believed the child was wounded in the face. It is not believed that the child was a target.

Police are looking for a four-door silver Pontiac or Taurus with tinted windows and a rear spoiler.
