Buffalo Police are investigating attempted abductions of city children that started on October first. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley says police have beefed up patrols outside Buffalo Public Schools and the school district is ramping up awareness with students and parents.
The Buffalo School District is taking these attempts very seriously.
"I think all of our students are feeling very vigilant themselves. Word has spread very quickly," said Will Keresztes, Associate Superintendent for Student Support. City school parents are urged to know where their children are at all times.
"If students are approached by an adult they don't know, by a person they don't know they need run, yell and tell," said Keresztes.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says the hunt is on for the couple driving around in a white or tan Lexus sedan.
"We are getting tips from the public. The investigation is progressing," said Derenda.
Tuesday night the school district issued a Robo call went out to all parents. A letter went out to school families last week. Another letter is expected to be issued Wednesday. Extra police patrols have been established in and around the city schools.
