Medaille College in Buffalo has a new leader. Dr. Kenneth Macur has been selected to serve as the college's seventh president.
Macur begins his new role June 1, replacing Dr. Richard Jurasek who announced his retirement late last year.
"We are delighted that Dr. Macur will be joining Medaille,” stated Charles E. Moran, Jr., Chair, Board of Trustees. “We are confident that, through his leadership, the college will continue to fulfill the strategic mission set forth by Dr. Jurasek and look forward to introducing him to both our campus community and the community-at-large.”
Macur most recently served as Provost and Dean of Bethany College in Kansas where he was able to grow enrollment and increase retention rates. He also served as CEO and sole proprietor of his strategic management and technology consulting firm.
In 2014, Medaille closed its Amherst campus to deal with major fiscal problems. At the time, Jurasek had in indicated enrollment in graduate education and graduate business programs had not come back from the "Great Recession" and cuts in staff and faculty were necessary to deal with a deficit of $2.2 million deficit.
Macur is a former adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He will be coming to Buffalo with his wife and two daughters.
WBFO News reached out to Macur for an interview, but were told he is currently out of the country. But Chairman Moran tells WBFO News the college is selling of the mansion it had purchased several years ago on Lincoln Parkway used as the Presidential residency. The home was purchased for 945-thousand dollars in 2006.
The college holds its premier fundraising event Thursday evening. The Founders’ Day Celebration 2015 takes place at the Connecticut Street Armory. Medaille, known as “Buffalo’s College,” holds the event each year to raise funds for scholarships.
