Niagara Wheatfield High School Principal Michael Mann was placed on administrative leave Thursday. The announcement comes in the middle of a controversy over how the school handled a rape case and a resulting student walkout.
Dozens of parents, students and community members called for principal Michael Mann’s resignation at a heated school board meeting Wednesday night. The victim’s mother was first to call for the principal’s removal.
A statement from Superintendent Dan Ljiljanich posted on the district’s website says Mann is on leave, effective Thursday, pending the findings of an outside, independent investigation.
"It is very important that we allow all of the facts to be collected in this matter," the statement reads.
Ljiljanich says Assistant Principal Jeff White has been named acting principal of the high school.
