Local runners react to Boston Marathon tragedy

Two explosions hit near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday leaving at least three dead and more than 140 injured. Local marathoners say they're shocked to hear the news.

A group of Boston Marathon runners from Buffalo are said to be safe, but very shaken up. Running Coach from Fleet Feet in North Buffalo Melina Buck helped train the bunch. She said she only spoke to her racers real quick, but they described a scene filled with panic and gore.

"There was a lot of blood a the finish line and it was definitely just scary, and it was scary for me to think about them all there and just hoping that everyone was all right," said Buck.

Buck said she ran the race last year and planned to run in it next year. She describes the marathon as a special thing to be a part of.

"It's amazing, it's an amazing thing to be a part of. It's the oldest marathon in the country and it's such an emotional event. This is just really sad," said Buck.

Buck said she and her Fleet Feet colleagues are horrified that something as wonderful as a race could turn into tragedy within seconds.
