Severe flood waters in 2009 destroyed the hospital on Memorial Drive in Gowanda. Hopes for a new hospital have now been dashed, and officials claim that changes to health
care and its costs led to ending progress toward a full service in-patient facility. Plans are now being made for an expansion of the Urgent Care Medical Center in the village. FEMA monies had been designated for the new hospital, and efforts will be made to bring federal funding into the expansion plans.
The closest emergency care facility to Gowanda residents is now nearly half an hour away.
