Just before the Friday deadline, officials from Buffalo and New York State reached a tentative agreement that will keep two Buffalo high schools open. Reports indicate that Buffalo Schools Superintendent Pamela Brown and New York State Education Commissioner John King have agreed to have Johns Hopkins University act as the educational partner organization that will help turnaround the under-performing East and Lafayette High Schools in the city. Grant applications for the turnaround of Buffalo Elementary School of Technology and Highgate Heights Elementary School were also completed.
Some minor details still need to be agreed to and the Buffalo Board of Education will need to sign off on the agreement.
