Official discusses Labor Day

For some citizens, Labor Day is a day off from work. But for those who fight for workers rights, it marks an important day.

The Labor Day holiday emerged from the "struggle for the eight-hour workday," said Richard Lipsitz, leader of the Western New York Area Labor Federation.

In conversation with WBFO's Eileen Buckley, Lipsitz gave a brief history of the Labor movement and where it currently stands.

"We still have a serious public policy role to play," Lipsitz said.

On this Labor Day holiday, Lipsitz encouraged workers to relax and reflect.

"I hope people come to our parade which is going to be on Labor Day beginning at the Irish Center (on Abbott Road in South Buffalo) at 11:30 in the morning and ending up at Cazenovia Park. So, I hope people will show up over there."
