In two days, ECMC has lost both its chief operating officer and its chief executive officer, with no explanation from the medical center board.
The medical center board is saying less than nothing about what happened, only that CEO Richard Cleland was removed yesterday by a unanimous vote of the board. He was given the job permanently in May after a year in interim status.
In a written statement, the removal was listed as "for cause," which usually means no severance pay will be offered.
One of Cleland's early actions when given the job permanently was to move Mary Laski Hoffman from senior vice president of operations to chief operating officer. She was out as of Tuesday, with no explanation.
The board did say ECMC is financially sound and is functioning normally.
Board members made President Thomas Quatroche the acting CEO.
