The passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sent ripples through the legal field. Aviva Abramovsky, the dean of the UB Law School and an instructor there, mentioned that Ginsburg was a friend of the school and sealed that relationship when she visited in August of 2019. Abramovsky commented on the lasting influence that Ginsburg has had on the field of law and society.
"She was, herself, the woman who created the entire area of law that we call law and feminism today. She was the one who avocated for women to have an equal status with men both in the practice of law and in life. And, without Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I don't think I would be dean of the law school. I'm not even sure I'd be able to be a working attorney. Such is the way society has changed directly through her actions."
Ginsburg was diagnosed with pancratic cancer in 2009. She experienced a return of some symptoms in recent months. Ginsburg's passing quiets a liberal vpoice on the court.
