Missing Amherst woman found dead

Leah Bellitto, who was last seen by family on 02/08/2025

The Amherst Police Department has announced that 29-year-old Leah Bellitto has been found dead in the water near Dodge Road. A citizen alerted police they discovered her at approximately 9:55 am. The cause and manner of death are currently under investigation. At this time, there are no signs of foul play and there is no apparent danger to the public. Bellitto was reported missing on February 8th at approximately 9:30 pm.

In a statement from Nardin Academy, where Bellitto was a 2015 graduate:

"All of us at Nardin Academy is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our alumna Leah Bellitto, a member of the Class of 2015. The entire Nardin community prays for and offers its heartfelt condolences to the Bellitto Family, Leah’s friends, and her loved ones. Our thoughts are with them all.”

In a letter of recommendation that was composed during her time as a student at Nardin, a former teacher wrote, “Leah’s presence in my class was always a pleasant one; she is just truly a sweet girl—a remarkable, self-motivated, and driven young woman.”
