The Buffalo Teachers Federation, which represents around 3,800 educators in the city’s school district, is throwing its support behind State Senator Sean Ryan’s bid for Buffalo mayor. BTF President Richard Nigro says Ryan was one of several mayoral candidates who sought the BTF endorsement.

"I've been doing this for a long time, I'm finishing my 27th year, twenty-five years in the schools, and two years here. That's a long time to see us spinning our tires in the same spot and I'm tired of it," Nigro said. "The only way you're going to get a different result is if you have different leadership with different ideas and someone who's not afraid to engage with people who are really at the heart of this thing, driving this machine. That's Sean."

To Ryan, the news of the teacher’s union endorsing him means a little more than just being the 14th labor endorsement he’s received in this campaign.

"This endorsement really touches my heart because my mom was a public school teacher," Ryan said.

Ryan is one of several candidates running in the June 24 Democratic Party primary.
