The redevelopment of the Towne Gardens Plaza into a seven-story apartment-anchored building will start next year.

Just two months after paying $21.7 million for the Towne Gardens Apartments on Buffalo East Side, the same development team is eyeing a plan to replace the aging Towne Gardens Plaza on William Street with a seven-story, apartment tower that could bring as many as 310 new apartments to the property. The project is being shepherded by Brooklyn-based BFC Partners and St. John Fruit Belt CDC. Reverend Michael Chapman, St. John Baptist Church pastor says the improvements will be a game changer.

“It is going to be a tremendous lift to the community, to the families that live there to see that transpire,” Chapman said.

Reverend Chapman says the bigger picture is setting the stage for other East Side developments. Pending final Buffalo approvals and financing, he said work on the seven-story tower could start by next spring.
