Detective Richard Hy, who's social media presence has drawn controversy before, went on the "UnsubscribePodcast" where he accused Buffalo Public Schools of obstructing special victims unit investigations. The episode has been viewed over 500,000 times, and is spurring many to respond.

A Buffalo Police detective and longtime social media influencer, Richard Hy, is alleging several instances of obstruction and coverup by Buffalo Public Schools.

Hy, on the ‘Unsubscribe Podcast,’ detailed several cases he’s been a part of with the BPD’s Special Victims Unit, where he said employees of Buffalo Public Schools deleted evidence, were slow to report alleged cases of abuse, and failed to hand over important information during investigations of sexual assault.

Those cases include one from February, when an Illinois man was accused of entering the Charles R. Drew Magnet School within the Buffalo Museum of Science and "grabbed two students" who were "part of an attempted abduction," as Hy put it during the podcast.

The man, 30 year-old Shane Cronin, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree burglary, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Hy said the school failed to inform the parents of one of the children involved fully about the incident.

Hy put much of the blame on lawyers for Buffalo Public Schools, saying they inform teachers and administrators not to talk to police, and ignore subpoenas.

Buffalo Public Schools in a statement on social media said they are “aware of unfortunate and recent allegations circulating in an online video."

"The district is prepared to vigorously address these untruths,” it also wrote.

The district maintained they have "a close and professional relationship with the Buffalo Police Department as a means to ensure that safety is a priority."
