Child & Family Services is celebrating the $1.6 million renovation of its headquarters at 330 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo. The site, in use for many years, was not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990."We made the entire building ADA accessible," said Chief Development Officer Mary Cornwell."We were previously grandfathered into this and we knew that in order to provide the highest quality of services that we could to the community, we had to break down those barriers for people who didn't have access into our building."
Chief Development Officer Mary Cornwell said eight months of construction included installation of an elevator, HVAC system and accessible bathrooms. She said the building is now fully accessible.
"We were very thankful to have the support of many community partners who believed in this project and believed in the work that we do," she said. "So we had a grant from the New York State Dormitory Authority. We also had a grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation, from the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, from the James H. Cummings Foundation and the Brott Foundation."
More than 1,900 clients were served last year at that location. Child & Family Services now anticipate a 10% increase in the number of clients served on an annual basis because of the renovations.
